Audio Scene Japan Here is what I found about audio when I was staying Japan. This speaker is in the NHK Museum in Tokyo. It is a 'Klangfilm Blatthaller'. High Tech from the 1920ies.
This construction from the late 20ies was used as PA system in sports arenas. The technical principle is close to what we know as magnetostats today. Most similarities are shared with the Apogee Ribbon speakers. Especially the foam rubber damping on the edges. In the museum they looped a Marlene Dietrich CD on this speaker. It produces a real nice and natural sound.
This historic record cutting machine also resembles to modern tangential designs.
A nice atmospheric view of a General electric AM Transmitter from the mid-twenties.
____________________________________________________________________________________ Here is a link to the Western Electric Gallery. Matsuo Fujii is the owner of this massive collection of Amps, tubes and theater speakers. It is organized like a museum, with a small entry fee you can listen in the purpose built hall the whole day. The site is multlingual and bears a lot of nice pictures. If you should be in Japan make sure to visit this place. more to come....
